Former NBA Player Arrested in Scottsdale: Police Release Detailed Report

Former Phoenix Suns player Cameron Payne was arrested early Friday morning in Scottsdale and accused of failing to disclose his identity and providing false information to law enforcement.

Confirmation of Payne’s arrest came from the Scottsdale Police Department, as reported by the Phoenix New Times.

Authorities responded to a disturbance near 68th Street and Chaparral Road around 2:44 a.m. on June 14, where they encountered two individuals, one of whom was later identified as Payne.

According to police, Payne declined to reveal his name to officers, which constitutes a class 2 misdemeanor under Arizona law. Arizona Revised Statute 13-2412 mandates that individuals detained under reasonable suspicion of a crime must disclose their true full name but are not obligated to answer other police inquiries. Additionally, Payne faces a charge of making a false report or statement, knowingly misrepresenting facts to disrupt law enforcement operations, classified as a class 1 misdemeanor.

Following his arrest, Payne was booked into city jail and subsequently released. Further details about the incident were not disclosed by police.

Payne played four seasons with the Suns, serving as backup to former point guard Chris Paul. He notably contributed to the team’s journey to the NBA Finals in 2021 before departing after the 2022-23 season. Payne spent the recent season playing for both the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.
