Lakers Conclude Coaching Search with Four-Year Contract for New Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired former NBA player JJ Redick as their new head coach on a four-year contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

ESPN Sources report that JJ Redick has signed a four-year deal to become the Lakers’ next coach. Rob Pelinka extended the offer this morning, and Redick has begun assembling a staff to provide experienced support.

The Lakers dismissed previous head coach Darvin Ham after two seasons, following an eighth-place finish in the Western Conference and a first-round playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets in 2024.

After UConn’s Dan Hurley declined their offer, the Lakers turned their attention to Redick to fill the coaching vacancy.

According to Wojnarowski, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka was impressed by Redick’s potential to connect with players.

Pelinka was convinced of Redick’s player rapport and basketball IQ, believing that an elite coaching staff would help Redick transition smoothly into his first coaching role, sources said.

Before becoming an NBA head coach, Redick played 15 seasons in the NBA with the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Dallas Mavericks, averaging 12.8 points and shooting 41.5% from three-point range.
