Kansas newcomer guard AJ Storr, who previously faced the Jayhawks with Team Bahamas in Puerto Rico last summer, has rejoined the Bahamas National Team. Storr, a 6-foot-7 junior transfer from the University of Wisconsin and a native of Rockford, Illinois, is eligible to play for the Bahamian team due to his father, Ambrozino Storr Sr., being born in Nassau, Bahamas.
Storr’s upcoming schedule includes participating in a pair of exhibition games at the Greek Basketball Federation’s Acropolis Tournament in Piraeus, Greece, on Wednesday and Thursday. This tournament serves as preparation for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament scheduled from July 2-7 in Valencia, Spain. The Bahamas, which has never qualified for the Olympics in a team sport, will compete against five other countries for a chance to advance to the 2024 games.
While Storr is currently in Greece with Team Bahamas, final cuts for the squad participating in the Olympic qualifying tournament have not yet been announced. Over 20 players, including NBA stars like Buddy Hield, Deandre Ayton, Eric Gordon, and Klay Thompson, participated in a recent team training camp in Houston. Team Bahamas coach Chris DeMarco, an assistant with the Golden State Warriors, plans to travel with 15 players to Greece, with the final roster of 12 players to be selected for the qualifying tournament and, potentially, the Olympic team if they advance.
“Our goal is to build chemistry and ensure we’re as prepared as possible for the qualifier in Valencia,” DeMarco stated. “We’ve shown we can compete at a high level, but there’s still room for growth as we integrate new team members and refine both our defensive and offensive strategies.”
Last August, Storr impressed against Kansas with averages of 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds over two exhibition games. During his sophomore season with the Badgers, he averaged a team-leading 16.8 points per game on 43.4% shooting, earning second-team all-Big Ten honors.
