Despite having over 80 games remaining, the team is looking forward to reinforcements. On Monday, Chicago announced that Davis Martin’s rehab assignment has been moved from the Arizona Complex League to High-A Winston-Salem.
Martin, recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in May 2023, may have been overlooked. The 27-year-old made his debut in 2022 as a spot starter and occasional reliever. During his rookie season, he recorded a 4.83 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, with 48 strikeouts and 19 walks across 63.1 innings.
Before the Surgery
Martin left the final game of the 2022 season early due to right biceps soreness after giving up nine earned runs in his shortened outing. In 2023, he made three starts for Triple-A Charlotte before being placed on the injured list with a forearm strain, an ailment often indicative of a potential Tommy John injury.
Martin’s recovery began in February, just after pitchers and catchers reported for Spring Training. He pitched a total of seven innings across three starts in the ACL and threw three innings in a start with Winston-Salem.

Martin is on schedule for his anticipated return in the second half of the season, and the White Sox are expected to have several openings in their pitching staff.
With the July 31st trade deadline approaching, many expect the team to deal multiple pitchers. Over the final two months of the season, the White Sox will depend on Martin, Mike Clevinger, and a few pitching prospects to handle the innings.
