Accident Claims Lives of Former Penn State Sensation, Vikings Rookie, and Another College Football Player

In a heartbreaking incident, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was among three college football players who lost their lives in a car crash. The tragic accident occurred at 3:14 a.m. on Saturday in Prince George’s County, claiming the lives of Jackson, Anthony Lytton Jr., and Isaiah Hazel. Jackson and Lytton were 24 years old, while Hazel was 23.
The trio, who played high school football together, were involved in a three-car collision, according to police reports. Jackson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. The Vikings released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident. Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident.”
Anthony Lytton Jr. had an impressive football career, which began at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Maryland. He was a standout player, leading Wise High School to 42 consecutive wins and three straight 4A state championships. In 2017, Lytton was named Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year and the DC Touchdown Club’s Maryland High School Player of the Year. He was also the first-ever Elite 22 team selection by Prince George’s County coaches.
Lytton’s high school career was marked by stellar defensive and offensive performances. Defensively, he recorded 32 tackles, three interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles during his senior season. Offensively, he caught 34 passes for 523 yards and seven touchdowns. His leadership helped Wise High School allow only 7.1 points per game and achieve six shutouts.
After high school, Lytton was a highly regarded recruit, rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN. He was ranked as the No. 3 prospect in Maryland by 247Sports and Rivals and the No. 8 cornerback in the nation by 247Sports. He started his college career at Florida State in 2018, where he played in 12 games with one start in 2019, recording 14 tackles, including 1.0 for loss, and one forced fumble. He later transferred to Penn State, where he played sparingly. Most recently, he was on the roster at Bowie State University, a Division II HBCU, although he did not record any statistics as a redshirt senior.
The deaths of Jackson, Lytton, and Hazel are a profound loss for their families, friends, and the football community. Their potential and contributions on and off the field will be remembered and missed deeply.
