Despite ending Sunday with a 57-33 record, the Baltimore Orioles had only three players selected for the MLB All-Star Game, a point of contention within the team’s clubhouse.
Pitcher Corbin Burnes, catcher Adley Rutschman, and infielder Gunnar Henderson were the three Orioles chosen. Manager Brandon Hyde and multiple players voiced their disappointment over the limited selections. Pitcher Grayson Rodriguez was notably frustrated, hinting he was restraining himself from being even more vocal about the snubs.
“I want to say some stuff about that,” Rodriguez said with a smirk. “I can’t. I think we should have had more than three All-Stars, for sure. There’s a lot of guys in that clubhouse that are deserving to be there.”
Ryan O’Hearn, who also had a case for selection, shared similar sentiments.
“When you have a team of this caliber and only three guys get to go, yeah it definitely sucks. It is what it is. Very happy for Corbin and Gunnar and Adley. They’re extremely deserving.”
O’Hearn, hitting .285 with 11 home runs, was among those feeling slighted.
While many feel strongly about All-Star snubs, the reality is there are 14 other teams in the American League, each guaranteed at least one selection. This, combined with positional needs, often results in deserving players being left out.
