Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Discusses Fall Camp and Player Expectations

As the offensive coordinator and interim head coach for four games, Sherrone Moore was pivotal to Michigan football’s national championship season in 2023. Now, after six years with the program, Moore is gearing up to lead Michigan as head coach for their title defense in 2024.

Moore appeared on “B1G Today” on the Big Ten Network to talk about the Wolverines’ offseason preparations for 2024. Watch the full segment here, and read on for his insights about the Michigan program.

It’s been a blessing in every way, albeit sometimes a bit chaotic. We thrive in chaos and try to seize each moment.

Leading this program has been incredible and a true blessing.

On staying calm under pressure:

Having faith in your players, the program, and the coaching staff, and knowing how well you’ve prepared, helps maintain mental composure. This mindset also extended to our players and coaches, which helped me stay calm during challenging times.

On player reactions to his appointment as head coach:

The program’s success is driven by how players perform and respond. I’m thrilled to lead this group and see their excitement.

On the emotions of winning a national title:

Winning was surreal. Initially, it felt like a pause, with a moment to realize, ‘Wow, we really did that.’ It took a few days to fully grasp the achievement. Celebrating with fans at the parade and Crisler Arena was amazing, but it took a while to really appreciate the victory.

On the added responsibilities of being head coach:

There’s no time to dwell because there’s always something else to handle. Staying busy is key.

On discussions with new men’s basketball coach Dusty May:

Our talks have been positive. Though we haven’t had long discussions yet, I look forward to exchanging insights and getting to know him better.

On the Big Ten adding West Coast schools:

I’m excited about these new additions. They will strengthen our conference, and we’ll continue to uphold Michigan’s traditions and standards.

On upcoming West Coast road trips:

I’m looking forward to our trip to Washington this year, known for its incredible atmosphere.

On summer plans:

June will be dedicated to recruiting, while July is hopefully for spending time with my family and daughters.

On expectations for fall camp:

I want to see a physical and mental toughness developed to handle pressure situations, while also staying healthy. We’re eager about the upcoming schedule.

On what he expects from returning veterans:

The culture here is strong. Veterans understand that regardless of who is in charge, the standard remains high. Wearing the block M symbolizes pride and a commitment to pursuing championships. We’re focused on following that process.

On being head coach:

Wearing this hat and continuing the tradition established by Coach Harbaugh and Bo feels special. It’s an honor to hold this position.
