This situation puts Treliving in a tough spot. The Leafs cannot afford to lose Marner for nothing when he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2025. Thus, they must decide whether to trade him for reinforcements in other areas or commit to keeping him long-term.
Marner, now 27, is in the prime of his career and coming off some of his best offensive seasons. His value is at an all-time high, and Toronto must capitalize on this, either by securing his services for the foreseeable future or by trading him to bolster their roster in other critical areas.
The decision is complicated further by Marner’s significant contributions on the ice. Trading him would mean losing a top offensive talent, while keeping him could provide the stability and scoring prowess the team needs to make a deep playoff run.
As the Leafs weigh their options, fans remain divided. Some argue that the team should seek depth in other positions by trading Marner, while others believe his offensive abilities are too valuable to lose.
