Verstappen: ‘No satisfaction in winning’

The reigning World Champion is well-known for not favoring the Sprint format, which is set to undergo adjustments in 2024.

Max Verstappen has expressed his indifference towards a potential Formula 1 Sprint championship, stating that it would “mean nothing” as adjustments are planned for the format in 2024. Despite winning four out of six Sprints in 2023, Verstappen remains a vocal critic of the alternate F1 weekend layout, and he is unimpressed with the proposed format tweaks, including the possibility of a reversed grid or a separate Sprint championship. Verstappen emphasized his preference for the normal race format, suggesting that maintaining the standard format with close competition between teams would be exciting enough.

“It doesn’t matter anything to me, as it is the same when you crossed the line in the race or in the main one,” Verstappen told media.

“There is no satisfaction to winning a Sprint for me, but honestly, they will do what they want.

“I don’t find it really interesting, so like I said before, why do we need to keep on trying to make changes, when I feel like they fail.

‘Just having the normal race format and all the teams close together, that will be exciting enough.”
