Braves’ Prospect Exhibits Near-Perfection in Stellar Minor League Comeback

In an exciting development, Braves’ top prospect JR Ritchie made his season debut for the Low-A Augusta GreenJackets last night after a few appearances in the Florida Complex League.

JR Ritchie, a first-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of high school, is ranked as the Braves’ fourth-best prospect by MLB Pipeline. Initially impressive in his professional career, his progress was halted by Tommy John surgery early last season.

At 21, Ritchie has ample time to recover, starting with a stellar performance for the Low-A Augusta GreenJackets last night. He struck out seven batters over five no-hit innings, allowing only one baserunner via a walk.

That’s nearly as perfect an outing as one could hope for after such a long break.

JR Ritchie and Owen Murphy, both first-round picks in the 2022 MLB Draft out of high school, have faced similar challenges. Murphy also underwent Tommy John surgery after dominating at the High-A level.

Despite their injuries, both players have immense untapped potential. If they remain healthy, they could become key players for the Braves in the future.
