Five-star offensive tackle David Sanders, a prime target for Nebraska football in the 2025 class, is set to announce his commitment on August 17th. This means that any team hoping to host him for a visit before he makes his decision has just one opportunity, which is this weekend as the recruiting dead period ends for the last part of July.
Since Sanders revealed his commitment date and named Nebraska among his final four choices—alongside Ohio State, Tennessee, and Georgia—it became crucial for the Huskers to bring him back to Lincoln. Without a visit to Nebraska, it seems unlikely that Sanders will commit, especially if he visits top contenders like Ohio State or Tennessee this weekend. Currently, those schools are the frontrunners, with Nebraska possibly in third place.
There’s more excitement surrounding Nebraska than Georgia right now, and according to Steve Wiltfong, the Cornhuskers are maintaining a “good dialogue” with Sanders as they work to secure a visit. “If Nebraska can get him to campus this weekend, I think that they’re having good dialogue, good conversations with the family behind the scenes,” Wiltfong said via On3.com. “I don’t think any of the other contenders are sleeping on Nebraska. Ohio State folks, Tennessee sources, Georgia is the fourth finalist. But I think people are viewing Nebraska as a real contender here with a few weeks to go in the David Sanders sweepstakes.”
This update is positive for Nebraska, but if the visit doesn’t happen, it would be wise to consider Sanders off their list of 2025 targets.
Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star Harper Murray was recently placed on probation for driving while intoxicated this past summer. Murray faced a couple of offseason incidents, including a shoplifting citation.
According to Husker Extra, “(Murray) is on pretrial diversion on a separate shoplifting case, which followed the DUI stop. In that case, she will be required to perform community service and stay out of trouble for six months. In return, prosecutors will dismiss the case.”
Despite these setbacks, Murray is moving forward with the Nebraska volleyball team. Head coach John Cook commented on her situation to the Journal Star, saying, “Harper has been proactive in taking steps to take responsibility for her mistakes. This summer she has demonstrated through her commitment to community service and through her involvement in helping lead our youth camps that she is ready and willing to learn from this. Harper and her teammates are looking forward to our first practice on Aug. 5 and to playing in the AVCA First Serve Showcase.”
It’s been a challenging offseason for the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, but it appears that things are getting back on track as the 2024 season approaches.
