“Cardinals Eyeing Surprise Pitching Reinforcement: Top Hurler in Their Sights for a Shocking Roster Shake-Up”

The St. Louis Cardinals haven’t yet made any roster upgrades ahead of the July 30 trade deadline, leaving fans eager to know what the team is targeting. The Cardinals are primarily looking to acquire another starting pitcher, but it’s unclear how aggressively they’ll pursue their needs.

Recently, the Cardinals were linked to one of the top available starters, suggesting that St. Louis might be ready to make a significant move in the coming days.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, “Many teams have engaged the (Chicago) White Sox and shown interest in trading for (Garrett) Crochet, including the (Baltimore) Orioles, (Los Angeles) Dodgers, (San Diego) Padres, (New York) Yankees, (Boston) Red Sox, (Houston) Astros, Cardinals, (Philadelphia) Phillies, and (Atlanta) Braves, among others.”

Crochet has posted a 6-7 record with a 3.07 ERA, 157-to-25 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a .201 batting average against, and a 0.97 WHIP over 111 1/3 innings for the White Sox in 2024. The 25-year-old avoided arbitration this season by signing for $800k and remains under team control for two more years, making him an affordable and controllable option.

To acquire Crochet, the Cardinals would likely need to offer a top prospect along with a package of lower-level talent, which they have available in their minor league system. It’s promising to see St. Louis pursuing this promising pitcher late in the game. The hope is that the Cardinals can outbid other interested big-market clubs for Crochet.
