Stunning Shift: A’s Offload Fireballer Lucas Erceg to Royals in Surprising Trade Deal

The Oakland Athletics have traded right-handed pitcher Lucas Erceg to the Kansas City Royals, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Erceg joined the Athletics in 2023 from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash, following his transition from an infielder to a high-velocity reliever. This season, he has posted a 2-3 record with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP, primarily serving as the setup man for All-Star pitcher Mason Miller in the eighth inning.

The specific details of the trade, including what the Athletics will receive in return, have not been disclosed yet. However, with Erceg being under team control until 2029, it is anticipated that the Royals may have paid a significant price to acquire him.
