Bangladesh vs. New Zealand: Tim Seifert gets hit in the helmet by a teammate’s drive
Although Tim Seifert was at the non-striker’s end, the Black Caps starter can thank his helmet for saving him from a major injury.
During the second over of the Twenty20 international on Friday night in Mount Maunganui, Seifert was hit on the head by a ball that was batted by Daryl Mitchell, his teammate from New Zealand.
The ball bounced back to bowler Shoriful Islam, who scooped it up and attempted to run out Seifert, who was lying outside his crease. He slumped on the ground. The Bangladeshi pacer saw the situation, though, and chose to check on his opponent rather than go after a dismissal out of sportsmanship.
After receiving care from the team’s medical staff, Seifert was given the all-clear to resume batting.
Bangladesh, behind 1-0 in the three-game series after winning the first game on Wednesday in Napier, decided to bowl at Bay Oval after winning the toss because to worries that rain would fall during the game.
Finn Allen, the out-of-form opener, was dismissed for just two in the second over, giving them an early advantage.
Seifert was hit in the helmet, but he quickly recovered and hit 43 off just 23 balls before being caught in the eighth over.
The teams departed the field because of rain after 11 overs, with New Zealand at 72-2.
