The Los Angeles Rams suffered a significant setback in their Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, with standout wide receiver Puka Nacua being carted off the field due to a knee injury. The incident occurred during Sunday night’s 26-20 defeat at Ford Field when Nacua landed awkwardly after catching a pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford midway through the second quarter.

Though Nacua briefly returned to action for the next offensive possession, he was ultimately carted to the locker room just before halftime. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that Nacua’s injury stems from a lingering knee issue he sustained during a joint training camp practice last month. Further testing is scheduled, and the second-year wideout is considered week-to-week.

Nacua’s absence could be a blow to the Rams’ offense, especially after his sensational rookie campaign in 2023. The Pro Bowl receiver caught 105 passes for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns in his first year, making him a key piece in Los Angeles’ offensive plans. Given that the injury appears related to his prior knee issue, the Rams may proceed with caution to avoid long-term complications, potentially keeping Nacua sidelined for an extended period.

With Nacua’s status uncertain, the Rams will likely lean on veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who delivered a strong performance against Detroit with 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. The team will also look to experienced pass-catcher Demarcus Robinson to help fill the void left by Nacua.

As the Rams await further clarity on Nacua’s knee, they must prepare for the possibility of facing several weeks without their rising star.
