The Boston Celtics have adjusted their preseason roster by signing free agent guard Jay Scrubb and waiving forward Tristan Enaruna, according to the transaction logs at RealGM and NBA.com. Scrubb’s addition comes as no surprise, following earlier reports that Boston was eyeing the 24-year-old guard for an Exhibit 10 contract, pending his recovery from an ACL injury. Now fully cleared, Scrubb looks to make the most of his fresh opportunity.

Scrubb, a 2020 second-round pick, has had stints with both the Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic, appearing in 24 games over his first three NBA seasons. Last year, he signed a two-way contract with Boston but suffered a torn ACL in the preseason, which sidelined him for the entire year. After a year of rehab, the 6’5″ shooting guard announced on Instagram that he’s fully recovered, a major milestone in his journey back to the court.

While Scrubb’s current Exhibit 10 deal doesn’t guarantee him a spot on the Celtics’ opening night roster, it provides a pathway to securing a two-way contract or a place with the Maine Celtics, Boston’s G League affiliate. If he ends up waived and spends at least 60 days with the Maine Celtics, Scrubb could earn a bonus of up to $77,500. Maine recently acquired Scrubb’s returning rights from the South Bay Lakers, positioning the guard for an extended stay in the Celtics’ development pipeline.

Boston will be watching closely as Scrubb works to regain form after his injury, with hopes that his combination of size, shooting, and scoring ability could provide valuable depth down the line. For now, Scrubb’s main focus will be to prove he’s healthy and capable of competing at the NBA level once again.
