Oregon Ducks Facing Challenge as Penn State Targets Four-Star Cornerback Brandon Finney
The Oregon Ducks may be on the verge of losing a key member of their 2025 recruiting class. Four-star cornerback Brandon Finney, who committed to Oregon in June, is now the subject of growing speculation that he may flip his commitment to Penn State.
Finney, a highly touted prospect ranked as the sixth-best cornerback in the class of 2025, was expected to bolster Oregon’s secondary. His potential departure would mark a significant blow to the Ducks’ recruiting efforts, especially given the attention and resources they’ve invested in securing his commitment.
Recruiting experts from On3, including Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, have logged predictions indicating an 82.9% chance that Finney will switch his allegiance to Penn State. This prediction is particularly notable given Finney’s established connection to Oregon, having visited the Eugene campus three times and developed a close relationship with cornerbacks coach Chris Hampton.

Penn State, however, has been equally diligent in its pursuit of Finney. The Nittany Lions have hosted the young cornerback for four visits and have made four in-home visits, ramping up their efforts to secure his commitment.
Currently, the Ducks are ranked ninth in the 2025 team recruiting rankings, while Penn State sits at No. 15. Losing Finney would be a significant hit for Oregon, as they also have another top cornerback in their 2025 class, four-star Dorian Brew, but the combination of Brew and Finney was expected to be a cornerstone for Oregon’s future defense.
As it stands, Finney is still committed to Oregon, but with Penn State increasing its pursuit and On3 experts predicting a flip, the Ducks could be facing a major recruiting setback. The next few weeks will be critical in determining where Finney ultimately ends up.
