Dodgers Set to Sign Star Infielder to $155 Million Contract.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, reigning World Series champions, are expected to make a big splash this offseason, with shortstop Willy Adames rumored to be a key target. According to David Brown of Field Level Media, the Dodgers are predicted to sign Adames to a six-year, $155 million contract.

Adames, who slashed .255/.331/.462 with 32 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 161 games for the Milwaukee Brewers, is coming off a solid season. However, Brown notes that his defensive metrics dropped in 2024, which could lead to a position change, with a move to third base possible within the next few seasons. Regardless of where he plays, adding Adames’ bat and speed to the Dodgers’ lineup would make them even more formidable in 2025.

Throughout his career, Adames has hit .248 with 150 home runs and 472 RBIs. His addition would bolster the Dodgers’ already stacked roster, and his flexibility in the field—able to play both shortstop and third base—would be especially valuable depending on how Mookie Betts’ role shakes out.

Betts Returning to Infield in 2025

Speaking of Betts, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes confirmed that the star outfielder will return to the infield in 2025, after spending much of 2024 in the outfield. Gomes explained that the physical demands of the outfield took a toll on Betts, and with winning being Betts’ top priority, a move back to the infield will help preserve his body. The exact position—whether second base or shortstop—hasn’t been determined yet, but Gomes emphasized that the Dodgers will have ongoing conversations with Betts about where he fits best.

Teoscar Hernandez Predicted to Re-Sign

In addition to pursuing Adames, Brown also predicts that the Dodgers will bring back Teoscar Hernandez on a three-year, $63 million deal. Hernandez, who signed a one-year contract with LA last offseason, was a key contributor to their World Series victory, hitting .272/.339/.501 with 33 home runs in 2024. Although his defense has started to slip as he enters his 30s, Hernandez’s offensive production makes him a valuable asset, and he has expressed his desire to return to the Dodgers.

With these moves, the Dodgers are positioning themselves for another championship run in 2025, adding key pieces like Adames and Hernandez to further strengthen an already talented roster.
