Auburn Takes Jab at Mike Elko After Aggies’ Stunning Loss, Mocking His Texas-Sized Slip-Up

Week 13 in the SEC just threw another wrench into the already chaotic playoff picture, with the No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies suffering a heartbreaking 43-41 defeat in a thrilling four-overtime showdown against the Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The loss not only dealt a blow to the Aggies’ championship aspirations, but it also opened the door for some playful smack talk from the Tigers’ social media team, who took advantage of head coach Mike Elko’s unfortunate slip-up earlier in the week.

Auburn, which now stands at 5-6 overall and 2-5 in SEC play, needed this win to stay alive in the bowl eligibility race, and they did so in dramatic fashion. After a nail-biting four-overtime battle, the Tigers emerged victorious, keeping their postseason hopes alive while dashing A&M’s dreams of a possible SEC Championship appearance. With one more win, Auburn can clinch bowl eligibility, and all eyes will be on their upcoming Iron Bowl showdown against Alabama in Week 14.

But perhaps the real story from this matchup came off the field, courtesy of a cheeky message posted by Auburn’s official X account. Following the win, the Tigers couldn’t resist taking a jab at Elko and the Aggies after a comment he made earlier in the week that suggested he might be overlooking Auburn in favor of their Week 14 showdown with Texas. The Tigers’ social media account fired back with a playful (and sarcastic) message: “Good luck vs. Texas!”

While Auburn’s social media antics were all in good fun, the loss to Auburn leaves Texas A&M in a difficult position. The Aggies now sit at 8-3 overall and 5-2 in SEC play, and their path to the SEC Championship Game has been made significantly harder. To keep their hopes alive, A&M must now defeat the No. 3 Texas Longhorns in Week 14 — no small task by any means.

A win over the Longhorns would not only salvage the Aggies’ SEC title dreams, but it would also give them a chance to make a late-season statement and possibly sneak into a coveted bowl game. However, with Texas sitting comfortably in the top four of the College Football Playoff race, and boasting one of the most dominant teams in the nation, pulling off the upset would require a near-perfect performance.

As for Auburn, the Tigers are not out of the woods yet. At 5-6, they need one more victory to secure bowl eligibility, with their biggest challenge coming next week in the form of the Iron Bowl at Bryant-Denny Stadium. A win over Alabama would send the Tigers to a postseason bowl and make their wild season end on a high note.

The SEC has been as unpredictable as ever in 2024, and as the season winds down, every game becomes increasingly critical. For Texas A&M, the loss to Auburn has heightened the stakes of their final regular season game. And for Auburn, the battle for bowl eligibility now hinges on their ability to play spoiler in one of college football’s most heated rivalries.

With so much still left to play for, it’s safe to say that the SEC’s postseason picture is as wild as ever — and it’s only going to get more intense in the weeks to come.
