NICK CAVADAY WILL PARTNER WITH EMMA RADUCANU FOR THE 2024 AUSTRALIAN OPEN WITH ANDREEVA CLASH.
Before the 2024 Australian Open, Emma Raducanu switches her coaching staff and hires Nick Cavaday. The British coach worked with the 2021 US Open winner throughout the off-season as part of her preparation for the forthcoming season, although it was unclear whether this would be limited to the weeks leading up to Raducanu’s return.
The former world No. 62 worked with Raducanu at the National Tennis Center, and the 21-year-old tennis star has now opted to add Cavaday to his team. Although he was not present at the ASB Classic, it is likely that he will come to Melbourne to help Raducanu at the Australian Open.
Reunion with an old friend
Cavaday worked with her at Roehampton’s National Tennis Centre before Christmas, and Raducanu is expected to work with him throughout the season. According to Sky Sports, former tennis player Somdev Devvarman has participated in recent training sessions with the Briton and may work with her throughout the season.
Jane O’Donohogue, a former Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) employee, assisted Raducanu this week in Auckland. However, the coach now works in finance, and it is unknown whether Donoghue will be present.
Raducanu had a promising performance at the ASB Classic this week, demonstrating a strong level after being away from the courts for 9 months. The former world No. 10 won a hard-fought match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) before facing second seed Elina Svitolina (7-6, 6-7, 1-6).
Before the start of the year’s first Grand Slam, Raducanu will compete in the Kooyong Classic demonstration tournament, where she will likely face 16-year-old Russian star Mirra Andreeva on January 10th.
