Trade Idea: Phillies to Swap Key Player for Two-Time All-Star

The Houston Astros are confronted with a significant dilemma at third base as star player Alex Bregman explores free agency. If GM Dana Brown fails to secure a new deal for Bregman, one potential solution could involve trading for Philadelphia Phillies’ third baseman Alec Bohm.

Alex Bregman chances of returning to Astros as free agent

Bohm, an All-Star in 2024 with impressive stats—including 97 RBI and 44 doubles—could be a prime trade candidate as the Phillies, under the leadership of president Dave Dombrowski, look to make roster changes this winter.

If the Astros lose Bregman, a trade involving Bohm and Astros reliever Ryan Pressly may become a reality. Pressly, a two-time All-Star, saw his role change in 2024 after losing the closer spot to Josh Hader. The Astros are reportedly shopping Pressly, and the Phillies could be interested in acquiring him to strengthen their bullpen, especially after losing key relievers Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez to free agency.

With Pressly set to earn $14 million in 2025 before becoming a free agent, this potential trade could offer the Phillies a short-term solution to bolster their pitching staff while filling the gap left by their departing relievers. This trade could work for both teams, solving major roster holes and giving both sides a competitive edge moving forward.
