Oregon Football Adds All-Big Ten Player via Transfer Portal.

Oregon football is receiving a significant boost as it prepares for the College Football Playoff, with cornerback Theran Johnson committing to the Ducks, according to On3. Johnson, a standout transfer from Northwestern, is regarded as one of the top defensive backs available in the transfer portal.

This season, Johnson earned All-Big Ten honors and was ranked as the No. 3 cornerback in the portal by On3. He finished 2024 with 40 solo tackles, two interceptions, and 10 passes defended, after playing three seasons at Northwestern. Over his career with the Wildcats, Johnson accumulated over 100 tackles and three interceptions.

The commitment comes as Oregon prepares for its first CFP appearance, entering as the No. 1 seed following a Big Ten championship win. Oregon is 13-0 this season, with head coach Dan Lanning leading the team to remarkable success in just his third year. The Ducks’ next challenge is against the winner of the Ohio State vs. Tennessee game, after previously defeating Ohio State this season.

Lanning, who is gaining attention for NFL openings, has positioned Oregon just three wins away from its first national title. The Ducks are determined to make a deep run in the playoff after nearly reaching the CFP last year.
