The Auburn Tigers made a major statement in the transfer portal with the addition of former Georgia Tech star wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. for the 2025 season. Singleton, widely regarded as the best receiver in the 2024 portal, committed to Auburn after a highly anticipated decision-making process, per On3 Sports.
Singleton’s Journey to Auburn
Singleton arrives at Auburn with two years of eligibility and a redshirt season available, bringing elite talent and experience to the Tigers’ offense. Over two seasons at Georgia Tech, Singleton established himself as one of the most dynamic receivers in college football.
In 2024, Singleton hauled in 56 receptions for 754 yards and three touchdowns, following up a sensational freshman season in 2023 when he recorded 714 receiving yards and six touchdowns. His freshman campaign earned him consensus first-team freshman All-American honors and catapulted him from a three-star recruit to one of the nation’s most talked-about young playmakers.
A native of Douglasville, Georgia, Singleton initially chose Georgia Tech over Auburn and other programs in 2023, opting to stay close to home. However, his decision to enter the portal opened the door for Auburn to secure the receiver they once sought.
Top Transfer Talent in 2024
As soon as Singleton entered the portal, he became the most coveted wide receiver available. On3 Sports ranked him as the No. 2 overall transfer prospect, trailing only quarterback John Mateer. His ability to create separation, make big plays, and produce consistently placed him above other standout receivers in the portal, including Kevin Conception, Zachariah Branch, and Nic Anderson.
Singleton joins Auburn as part of head coach Hugh Freeze’s aggressive push to rebuild the Tigers’ offense. He’s the second ACC receiver to transfer to Auburn this offseason, joining former Wake Forest standout Horatio Fields, who committed to the Tigers on Dec. 19.
Revamped Auburn Offense for 2025
The 2025 season marks the third year of Hugh Freeze’s tenure at Auburn, and expectations are higher than ever. While Freeze has yet to deliver a winning season, the Tigers’ roster upgrades give them a legitimate shot at success.
Auburn will lose key contributors like quarterback Payton Thorne, running back Jarquez Hunter, and wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith, but they’ve reloaded with an impressive transfer class.
Headlining the group is former five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold, who transferred from Oklahoma. Arnold, once considered the top dual-threat quarterback of the 2023 recruiting class, has a chance to revive his career and lead Auburn’s offense alongside Singleton.
The Tigers have also added offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin and quarterback Ashton Daniels, among others, to shore up their roster. With Singleton’s game-changing talent, Fields’ complementary skill set, and Arnold’s potential, Auburn’s offense could be poised for a breakout season.
Looking Ahead
Eric Singleton Jr.’s commitment is a clear win for Auburn football, giving the Tigers a premier playmaker and solidifying their place as a team to watch in 2025. Singleton’s ability to stretch the field and deliver in clutch moments will be a key component of Auburn’s quest to return to SEC prominence under Hugh Freeze.
The pieces are coming together for the Tigers, and with Singleton leading the charge, Auburn’s offense has the firepower to turn potential into success.
