Novak Djokovic: My world against Andy Murray

Serbia's Novak Djokovic (L) and Britain's Andy Murray arrive on court during a practice session in Melbourne on January 10, 2019, ahead of the Australian Open tennis tournament

On Thursday, top-seeded Novak Djokovic was drawn to face either a qualifier or lucky loser as he starts his quest for an 11th Australian Open title. There’s a possibility for him to encounter fellow Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in the third round.

Having secured 24 majors, the Serbian triumphed over Stefanos Tsitsipas in last year’s final and later added the French and US Open titles to his illustrious collection. However, the 36-year-old begins his title defense with concerns about a wrist injury that affected his performance at the United Cup, leading to a loss against Australian Alex De Minaur.

Tsitsipas, seeded seventh, faces a challenging task to replicate his 2023 success, especially with former top-10 player Matteo Berrettini as his opening opponent and Djokovic looming as a potential quarter-final adversary.
