Possibly, Pascal Siakam might not be on the move next month. Despite the considerable trade speculation surrounding the two-time All-Star, NBA executives are reportedly bracing for the scenario where the Toronto Raptors decide against trading Siakam before the February 8 deadline, as per information from Yahoo’s Jake Fischer. Siakam’s contractual situation adds complexity to his trade value, as he is communicating to teams that he prefers entering unrestricted free agency this summer and would be hesitant to re-sign with any team that trades for him, according to Fischer. If Siakam remains untraded by February 8, the Raptors might explore extension discussions with him. Siakam is eligible for a four-year, $192 million deal with Toronto, which he can sign until the commencement of free agency this summer. If Toronto doesn’t secure Siakam to a deal, there’s a chance he could depart in free agency, with several teams anticipated to have sufficient cap space to pursue a max-contract player. Teams such as Detroit, Philadelphia, and Indiana are expected to be among those capable of signing a player of Siakam’s caliber. The frequently mentioned teams in Siakam trade discussions include Sacramento, Indiana, Detroit, and Dallas, according to Fischer.

This season, Siakam is posting averages of 22.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and five assists per game, with shooting percentages of 52.5% from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc. If Siakam enters free agency, he could potentially land a contract worth up to $248.5 million over five years if he re-signs with the team holding his Bird Rights—likely Toronto if he remains untraded. Alternatively, if he signs with another team in free agency, he would be eligible for a max contract worth $184.2 million over four years.
