Former Ohio State Defensive Tackle Donovan Munger Passes Away at 30
The Ohio State football community is mourning the loss of former Buckeyes defensive tackle Donovan Munger, who has passed away at the age of 30. His mother shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, expressing the deep pain of losing her eldest child.
“My heart will never beat the same,” she wrote. “It is with my deepest sadness that I formally announce to the world the passing of my eldest child Donovan Munger. Pray for my family.”
No cause of death has been publicly disclosed.

Munger’s Journey with the Buckeyes
A Cleveland native, Munger was a standout at Shaker Heights High School before committing to Ohio State as a four-star recruit in the class of 2013. He was part of the Buckeyes’ dominant 2014 national championship team, appearing in 11 games that season and registering five tackles. He continued his role as a key depth piece on the defensive line in 2015, playing in 12 games as a backup.
Unfortunately, his playing career was cut short in 2016 due to blood clot issues that had persisted since high school. Then-head coach Urban Meyer confirmed that Munger was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, preventing him from continuing his football career.
Remembering Munger
Despite his football career ending prematurely, Munger remained a beloved member of the Ohio State football family. His dedication and contributions to the program helped shape one of the most dominant teams in college football history.
Buckeye Nation will undoubtedly remember him for his resilience, talent, and impact on the field. As his family, friends, and former teammates grieve, the Ohio State community will honor his memory and the legacy he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, Donovan Munger.
