Justin Champagnie has secured his NBA future, agreeing to a four-year, $10 million contract with the Washington Wizards. The deal solidifies his place with the team after initially joining on a 10-day contract in February 2024.

The 23-year-old guard will earn $1.8 million for the final six weeks of the current season, a significant step up after working his way through two-way contracts and G League assignments.

Champagnie’s Impact in Washington

Since arriving in D.C., Champagnie has been a bright spot in an otherwise difficult season for the Wizards. He has started 15 of his 40 games this year, averaging 11.6 points and 7.5 rebounds in those opportunities. Overall, he is putting up 7.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from three-point range.

Champagnie has also shined in the G League with the Capital City Go-Go, averaging 20.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. His versatility and improved shooting efficiency have helped him earn this long-term commitment from Washington.

A Long Road to Stability

Undrafted in 2021, Champagnie has had a winding path in the NBA. He spent time with the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics before landing with the Wizards. He signed with Boston in April 2023 but played just two games before being waived that July.

Now, Washington is investing in him as a key piece moving forward. His promotion could signal a roster move, with Jalen McDaniels recently joining the team on a 10-day contract. The Wizards, who hold the league’s worst record at 11-48, are clearly evaluating talent for the future.

Meanwhile, the Celtics, one of Champagnie’s former teams, remain among the NBA’s elite. With a 43-18 record, they sit as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, positioning themselves for a deep playoff run.

For Champagnie, this contract represents more than just financial security—it’s a testament to his perseverance and growth as a player. Now, he has a real opportunity to establish himself as a core contributor in Washington’s rebuild.
