Few players in college football were as unpredictable as Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun during the 2024 season.

The Ole Miss transfer had his share of standout moments, including a jaw-dropping end-zone interception against Penn State, showcasing his elite ball skills. Over the course of the season, Igbinosun tallied 45 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defended. His physical tools are undeniable—standing at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds with elite athleticism, he has the ideal frame for a lockdown corner.

However, there was one glaring issue that plagued his junior season: penalties. Igbinosun was flagged 16 times, making him one of the most penalized defensive backs in the country. His aggressive playstyle, while occasionally rewarding, often resulted in costly infractions that hurt the Buckeyes’ defense.

Despite those struggles, Andy Anders of Eleven Warriors believes Igbinosun has the potential to develop into an elite defender if he can clean up his game.

“Anyone who follows Ohio State knows where Igbinosun can improve, however: penalties,” Anders wrote. “He committed 16 of them in 2024 as one of the most penalized players in college football. But if he can cut back on those significantly, he has the production, length, physicality, and athleticism to be a top-50 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and solidify himself as one of the nation’s premier corners.”

The biggest question heading into 2025 is whether Igbinosun’s lack of discipline is a correctable issue or a fundamental part of his game. With Ohio State returning just three defensive starters, his ability to step up and play more controlled football will be crucial.

There is no doubt that Igbinosun has all the tools to be a star. But if he cannot eliminate costly mistakes, he may never fully capitalize on his immense potential.

The Buckeyes are counting on him to make the necessary adjustments. The question remains: Can Igbinosun take that next step and establish himself as one of college football’s best defensive backs in 2025?
