“Potential Departure for Melbourne Storm: Forward Aaron Pene Offered to Overseas Clubs Amidst Player Swap Fallout”

The Melbourne Storm might face another loss shortly after completing a player swap with the Wests Tigers, which resulted in the departure of Justin Olam.

According to Love Rugby League, Melbourne Storm’s forward, Aaron Pene, is currently being offered to several overseas clubs as the 2024 season approaches.

Reports suggest that clubs in the Super League and RFL Championship are expressing interest, with potential destinations including the London Broncos, Salford Red Devils, Warrington Wolves, or the well-financed Featherstone Rovers.

Set to be out of contract at the end of the current year, Pene has accumulated 32 NRL appearances, with eight of them occurring in the last season. During his second stint with the club after a brief departure to the New Zealand Warriors in 2022, Pene featured in all of his games from the interchange bench.

At 28 years old, Pene has already faced competition from players like Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Christian Welch. However, with the arrival of recruit Shawn Blore and the emergence of talented young players, he now faces additional competition for a spot in the lineup.

Should Pene depart from the Storm, he would join the ranks of five players who left from the previous season’s roster, including Tom Eisenhuth (St George Illawarra Dragons), Jayden Nikorima (Catalan Dragons), Justin Olam (Wests Tigers), and Tariq Sims (Catalan Dragons).

As of January 13, the information provided is accurate.
