White Sox Suffer Another Major Blow as Injury Woes Continue

The Chicago White Sox have endured a brutal stretch of injuries this spring, with their pitching depth taking the hardest hit. What was already a concerning situation has now worsened, as yet another arm has been lost for the season.
A String of Tommy John Surgeries
So far this spring, the White Sox have seen five pitchers undergo Tommy John surgery: Prelander Berroa, Ky Bush, Juan Carela, Blake Larson, and most recently, Drew Thorpe. Unfortunately, that list has now grown to six, further depleting an already battered pitching staff.
Another Arm Down: Mason Adams
According to White Sox beat reporter Daryl Van Schouwen, No. 12 overall prospect Mason Adams is the latest victim of Tommy John surgery. White Sox GM Chris Getz confirmed the news, marking another significant loss for the organization.
Adams had shown promise this spring, posting a 1-1 record with a 4.91 ERA while striking out eight in 7.1 innings. Last season, he impressed across Double-A and Triple-A, compiling a 7-5 record with a stellar 2.92 ERA in 120.1 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander out of Jacksonville University was expected to contribute at some point in 2025, but his MLB debut will now have to wait.
Depth Will Be Tested
With so many arms sidelined, the White Sox’s depth will be tested over the course of the grueling 162-game season. While injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, losing this many pitchers to Tommy John surgery is an alarming trend. The team will now have to explore internal options and the waiver wire as they look to reinforce their pitching staff.
Staying healthy will be crucial if the White Sox hope to compete, but with their rotation and bullpen taking heavy losses before the season even begins, they’ll need to find answers—and fast.
