White Sox Send Pitcher Jake Eder to Angels in In-Game Trade
The Chicago White Sox made a rare in-game trade on Monday, shipping pitcher Jake Eder to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations. The deal was announced during Monday’s contest, marking a quick resolution to Eder’s future after he had been designated for assignment on Opening Day.
Eder, a left-hander with promising upside, originally joined the White Sox organization in 2023 as part of the trade that sent power-hitting infielder Jake Burger to the Miami Marlins at the deadline. However, his tenure in Chicago never truly gained traction.
Last season, Eder struggled in the minors, making 24 starts between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte while posting an inflated 6.61 ERA. Despite his rough minor league campaign, he did get a taste of the big leagues late in the season, debuting on Sept. 17 against the very team he is now joining. In that outing, Eder allowed one earned run and two hits over two innings of work.
For the Angels, the acquisition of Eder represents a low-risk move to bolster their pitching depth. The 25-year-old southpaw still possesses intriguing potential, particularly if he can regain the form that once made him a highly regarded prospect in Miami’s system.
As the 2025 season unfolds, it will be interesting to see if a fresh start with the Angels can help Eder develop into a reliable major league arm. Meanwhile, for the White Sox, the move clears space on their roster while netting them some financial flexibility as they continue to retool their organization.
