The Bulldogs express interest in acquiring a Panthers speedster following discussions with the player’s sibling.

The Bulldogs have reportedly initiated contact with the Panthers’ premiership-winning speedster, Taylan May, in an effort to assess his interest in joining their ranks at Belmore.

As per reports from The Sydney Morning Herald, the Bulldogs have communicated with May’s management to convey their eagerness to secure his signature, provided he is considering exploring opportunities beyond Penrith.

Taylan May is coming off an ACL injury.

At 22 years old, May is entering the final year of his contract with the Panthers, granting him the freedom to engage in negotiations with potential suitors for the 2025 season and beyond, a privilege available since last November. The Bulldogs had previously entered into discussions with May’s brother, Terrell, a forward for the Roosters, who is also in the final year of his contract, regarding a potential move to Belmore as early as 2024.

May made his debut for the Panthers in 2021 and showcased his scoring prowess with 16 tries in 21 games during the Panthers’ victorious 2022 Premiership campaign. Unfortunately, an ACL injury during the 2023 World Club Challenge sidelined him for the entire last season, with Sunia Turuva taking over his wing position as Penrith secured a third consecutive title.

The Bulldogs are keen to engage in discussions with May if he is genuinely interested in exploring alternative options for his rugby league career.

George Mimis, the manager for Taylan May, is scheduled to hold discussions with Penrith next week to explore the possibility of a contract extension with the reigning premiers.

While Penrith is aware of the Bulldogs’ interest in May, they have emphasized that any discussions with the rival club must be deferred until they have had the opportunity to talk to May about his future with the Panthers.

In the case of Terrell May, he has received offers from both the Bulldogs and his current club, the Roosters. However, Terrell is opting to delay making a decision about his future until he learns more about his younger brother Taylan’s plans, showing a willingness to align his choices with those of his sibling.

While the Bulldogs’ interest in May is acknowledged by Penrith, they are firm in their stance that May should not engage in discussions with the rival club until they have had an opportunity to talk to him about his future with the Panthers.

The May brothers, including former Panthers utility player Tyrone May, currently playing in the Super League, hold the aspiration of playing together at a single club in the future.

It’s worth noting that the Bulldogs had a prior agreement with Tyrone May to join the club in 2024, but the deal fell through after it became public knowledge midway through the last season.

Despite Jarome Luai’s move to the Tigers in 2025, the Panthers still have financial flexibility to retain May. However, considerations for re-signing Sunia Turuva and Mitch Kenny also factor into the team’s financial decisions.

Terrell and Taylan May have a desire to play with each other and brother Tyrone.
