In the F1 2024 season, Max Verstappen broke yet another record set by Lewis Hamilton.
In 2023, Max Verstappen broke through several seemingly insurmountable records to write his mark on several pages of Formula 1 history. And he intends to fully commit to continuing where he left off in 2024 by undoing one of Lewis Hamilton’s enduring accomplishments.
The teams will begin the 2019 campaign at the Bahrain International Circuit on March 2 in Bahrain, where the new season will begin. After dominating his 19 opponents on the grid, Verstappen has won the title in each of the last three years, making him the key player that everyone wants to beat.
In what turned out to be the most biased season in Formula One history, Verstappen surpassed the records for most points earned in a season and most races won by a single driver (19). The Dutch driver is now aiming to break one of Hamilton’s records.
The 26-year-old has currently finished 41 straight races inside the points, which is an incredible accomplishment given the variety of penalties and setbacks he has experienced as well as the dependability of the Red Bull vehicle.
However, he falls well short of what Hamilton accomplished in the years between 2018 and 2020.
Verstappen getting closer to Hamilton’s accomplishment
Hamilton astonishingly scored 48 points finishes in a straight from coming second in his native race at Silverstone’s British Grand Prix, until his eligibility to compete at the Bahrain Grand Prix was revoked during the Covid-19 season in 2020.
After catching the sickness, Hamilton was declared medically unable to continue racing in the Sakhir GP, thus George Russell took over in the cockpit. His long-standing streak of finishing in the points was ended since he was deemed to have DNS (did not start).
Verstappen has a fantastic opportunity to shatter records because Hamilton is unable to continue that run. He will tie Hamilton’s record of 48 points finishes in a row if he can finish in the top 10 in each of the following seven world championship rounds in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, China, Miami, and Emilia Romagna.
Properly, should Verstappen secure a point, he would then have the opportunity to create history in Monaco, where he presently calls home. Verstappen hasn’t failed to score since the Australian Grand Prix in 2022, and it was only because he had to retire because of a fuel leak.
His most recent finish outside the points came in the 11th position in the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa. Considering his previous performance history, it seems like the only thing stopping him from adding another record to his expanding collection would be a technological glitch.
