P.K. Subban seeking a suspension for his former teammate from the Canadiens for a “inexcusable” hit.
Former NHL defenseman and current ESPN analyst P.K. Subban analyzed the Montreal Canadiens forward’s savage hit on X, formerly Twitter, calling it “inexcusable.”
I hate to say it, but this hit is worthy of a suspension.#nhl #habs #isles pic.twitter.com/BHVp69X9Li

“It’s a great game, everything is good, and then there’s this play,” Subban starts off saying in a video. “It’s not a hockey play. It’s not a collision in the corner. It’s not a battle for the puck. This is a guy skating the puck through the middle of the ice and Gallagher throws his elbow right into his chin.
“I don’t know how else I’m supposed to call that, but to me those are the hits that we just can’t have. That’s just inexcusable. There’s no upside.”
Subban, who spent 13 years in the NHL with three different teams, spent four seasons (2012–16) with the Canadiens in the same lineup as Gallagher.
About halfway into the third quarter, there was a hit in the neutral zone. Pelech had cleared the puck when Gallagher lifted his elbow to strike the defenseman square in the face.

Pelech was seen by trainers prior to going to the locker room, and Gallagher received a five-minute major and game misconduct.
The only information the Islanders head coach Patrick Roy, a Canadiens icon making his first trip to Montreal with N.Y., provided regarding the hit after the game was that he thought the league need to look into it.
According to the New York Post, Roy stated, “I think we all saw what happened.” “I believe the hit will be reviewed by the league. For now, that is all I have to say.
Subban talked on a call he made earlier in the season regarding Charlie McAvoy of the Bruins, who he felt should have been suspended for five games for a risky hit on Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Panthers. In the end, McAvoy was suspended by the NHL for four games.
Regarding Gallagher’s hit, Subban remarked, “Player Safety can’t be happy with that. To see a game like this that’s been so good.”
“It is imperative that I remain consistent in my calling, regardless of the individual involved.” Hits like these shouldn’t be allowed in the game, and player safety needs to improve.
