The New England Patriots have named their next defensive coordinator by promoting D-line coach DeMarcus Covington. However, the search continues for candidates to fill the vacant coordinator positions on offense and special teams. The pool of potential candidates is narrowing, with Zac Robinson being the latest to be ruled out.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Robinson is expected to become the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. This move reunites him with the new Falcons head coach, Raheem Morris, with both having been part of the Los Angeles Rams staff in recent years.

Robinson, who previously served as the Rams’ pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, was among the nine candidates initially linked to the Patriots’ offensive coordinator role. With his removal from consideration, only six coaches are still in the running.
Former Patriots tight ends coach Nick Caley, who was with the Rams last year, is a prominent candidate among the remaining group. The 41-year-old is scheduled for an in-person interview with the Patriots and their new head coach, Jerod Mayo, on Sunday.
Other candidates include Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury, and former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.
Notably, Zac Robinson, Shane Waldron, and Dan Pitcher are no longer in the running. Robinson is set to join the Falcons, while Waldron and Pitcher will take on the roles of offensive coordinators for the Bears and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively.
