A defenseman from the Edmonton Oilers has been identified as a potential trade target by an insider

As the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline approaches, an Edmonton Oilers defenseman, Brett Kulak, has emerged as one of the league’s top trade candidates, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli. In Seravalli’s latest Trade Target Board for Daily Faceoff, Kulak holds the No. 11 spot, and the speculation arises from the Oilers’ need to generate salary cap space for a significant trade deadline acquisition.

Seravalli suggests that Kulak, 30, with a $2.75 million cap hit, could potentially become the casualty in the Oilers’ efforts to free up cap space. Despite Kulak’s role primarily on the team’s bottom pairing, the Oilers have internal options, such as Philip Broberg, who could step in to replace him if a trade were to materialize.

In the current season, Kulak has participated in 44 games for the Oilers, contributing two goals, three assists, and holding a minus-1 rating. While parting ways with Kulak might leave a gap in the lineup, Seravalli suggests that it could be a strategic move if it facilitates the acquisition of a high-impact player, addressing the team’s potential need for additional talent.
