Michael Pratt of Tulane, quarterback, is the target of the Jets draft

Could the New York Jets secure quarterback and 2024 NFL Draft prospect Michael Pratt to don their green jersey as he embarks on his NFL journey?

With the Jets reportedly exploring trade options for 2021 No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, they are said to be in search of a backup for starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In pursuit of this, they might turn to the Draft to fill the role, making Pratt a potential Day 3 selection.

Pratt assumed the starting quarterback role for the Tulane Green Wave just three games into his freshman season, earning praise from coaches and teammates alike for his impressive performance. He amassed 1,806 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes in his freshman year, while also rushing for 229 yards and eight touchdowns.

As a sophomore, he completed 57.6 percent of his passes for 2,381 yards and 21 touchdowns with eight interceptions. However, it was during his junior year that the Boca Raton, Fla. native garnered national attention, throwing for 3,009 yards and 27 touchdowns, along with a career-high 478 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Despite a strong senior season, Pratt’s performance may earn him a selection on Draft weekend. He completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,406 yards and 22 touchdowns, with an additional five rushing touchdowns, earning him the 2023 AAC Offensive Player of the Year award.

Pratt also led his Green Wave team to a thrilling victory over the USA Trojans in the Cotton Bowl Classic, orchestrating a game-winning drive that showcased his leadership and clutch abilities.

Pratt’s standout showing at the Senior Bowl may have bolstered his Draft stock, with the 6-2, 219-pound quarterback impressing scouts with his arm strength and field awareness. While his confidence bodes well for his transition to the professional level, Pratt will need to balance his willingness to take big-play opportunities with sound decision-making.

If Pratt is available to the Jets in the mid-to-late rounds, they could potentially secure a promising quarterback capable of serving as a capable backup and even stepping in as a spot starter when needed.
