Focus on Wide Receivers in NFL First Round: PFF Analysis and Potential Pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

As per the analysis provided by PFF.com, the primary focus for NFL teams in the first round is anticipated to be on the wide receiver position. This draft class is regarded as one of the strongest in terms of wide receivers in recent memory. While quarterbacks remain highly coveted, having elite athletes to target is crucial for making a significant impact on the field.

According to the latest mock NFL draft by PFF, a total of seven receivers are projected to be selected in the first round, with one of them being Oregon’s own Troy Franklin. PFF suggests that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are particularly interested in the 6-foot-3, 187-pound receiver from East Palo Alto, Calif.

Troy Franklin #11 of the Oregon Ducks

Franklin showcased significant improvement throughout his three seasons with the Ducks, particularly standing out in the 2022 and 2023 seasons with quarterback Bo Nix delivering passes his way. During this period, Franklin accumulated impressive statistics, catching 142 passes for 2,274 yards and scoring 23 touchdowns.

With an overall grade of 84.9 and a receiving grade of 87.3, Franklin was ranked as the 29th best receiver in the country by PFF. Given the Buccaneers’ offensive performance being in the lower third of the NFL, it comes as no surprise that they are seeking to bolster their receiving corps, with Franklin being a potential solution to their needs in this area.
