Dismissal of Former FSU Recruit Bishop Thomas from Colorado Buffaloes: Analysis and Impact

Another college football program has parted ways with a former Florida State Seminole player.

As reported by Buffs Beat, Bishop Thomas, a three-star recruit from FSU’s 2022 recruiting class, has been dismissed from the Colorado Buffaloes. Thomas had transferred to Colorado to join Deion Sanders’ team in May of 2023. However, his tenure with the Buffaloes was marred by a suspension due to a violation of team rules at the conclusion of the season, after accumulating 123 total snaps across nine games, primarily on defense.

Thomas wrapped up the 2023 season with a PFF defensive grade of 56.1, placing him 31st among the 39 players who took the field for Colorado that year. His performance metrics included a run defense grade of 54.9, a pass rush grade of 56.5, and a coverage grade of 60.0.

While the transfer portal window is presently closed for non-graduate transfers, Thomas will have the opportunity to enter it during the upcoming spring window (April 15-30).

During his time at Florida State, Thomas appeared in two games, registering one assisted tackle. At Colorado, the 6’2″, 305-pound freshman contributed seven total tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass deflection, and one fumble recovery across nine games. He retains three years of eligibility.

Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes have experienced a significant turnover this offseason, with 13 players entering the transfer portal. However, the program has counterbalanced these departures by bringing in 24 new players, currently boasting the No. 5 transfer class according to 247Sports.
