Michigan Wolverines star tragically passed away on Monday after a challenging 18-month battle with cancer.

Former Michigan Wolverines star edge rusher Craig Roh tragically passed away on Monday after bravely battling stage IV colon cancer for 18 months.

Roh, who played for the Wolverines from 2009 to 2012, also had a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers from 2013 to 2014 before joining the Omaha Mammoths and eventually finishing his career in the CFL, where he won a championship and retired after the 2021 season.

Known for his versatility, Roh was a “hybrid” defender at Michigan, playing defensive end, defensive tackle, and outside linebacker. He started a program-record 51 consecutive games, with 20 games at outside linebacker, 29 at defensive end, and two at defensive tackle. He was twice named an All-Big Ten honorable mention and selected to the second team once during his time with the Wolverines.

Throughout his career at Michigan, Roh amassed 26.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 150 total tackles, and three forced fumbles, leaving a lasting impact on the team and its fans.

Michigan Wolverines’ new head coach Sherrone Moore expressed his sorrow alongside numerous fans over the passing of Craig Roh, a former defensive end and the program’s record holder for career starts. Moore conveyed his condolences to Roh’s family, stating, “My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time. The entire Roh family is in my thoughts and prayers, and we hope for peace and comfort for all who knew this great Wolverine.”

Following his playing career, Roh transitioned into a role as a teacher and mentor. He authored a book titled the “Pass Rush Bible,” offering resources and insights based on his experience as a professional football edge rusher for more than a decade.
