An outside back has rejoined the Parramatta Eels.

After leaving the Parramatta Eels at the end of last year to sign a train-and-trial contract with the Wests Tigers, Samuel Loizou has made a surprising decision to return to the Eels. A local junior from Parramatta, Loizou was farewelled alongside other players at the end of last year, indicating he would not be part of the 2024 roster. He then joined the Wests Tigers on a train-and-trial contract, but has now returned to the Eels.

Although the details of his new contract are not known, Loizou has been named in the centres for the Eels’ first NSW Cup game against the Canterbury Bulldogs. While primarily a winger, Loizou made his NRL debut for the Eels in Round 25, 2021, against the Penrith Panthers, in a match that ended in a 6-40 loss for the Eels. He had spent three seasons with the NRL squad after progressing through Parramatta’s Elite Pathways Program.

For the upcoming game, Loizou will play in the centres, alongside Blaize Talaigi, Isaac Lumelume, Zac Cini, and Haze Dunster in the back-line. Rookie standout Ethan Sanders will play in the halves, partnering with Daejarn Asi, after Sanders played his first pre-season match.
