The Giants are about to sign two free agents…
The New York Giants need more skill in a number of places on their roster. Pro Football Focus offers a few recommendations that could work.
The wide receiver position and the need for a backup quarterback to start in case incumbent Daniel Jones isn’t ready to start the season due to an ACL tear are two of the most pressing areas of need for the New York Giants, especially when it comes to offense.
Brad Spielbeger of Pro Football Focus has suggested a quarterback and a receiver to improve the league’s 29th-ranked offense from the previous season, as scores of free agents are expected to enter the market on March 13.
Ever since they parted ways with Odell Beckham Jr., the Giants have been in dire need of a top receiver. Spielbeger notes that last year’s effort to make tight end Darren Waller the de facto No. 1 receiver didn’t work out given his injury troubles and that the Giants consider Michael Pittman Jr. of the Colts as a possible possibility.
Spielberger noted, “The Giants have plenty of speed and slot receivers.” “Please get Daniel Jones a big target on the outside.”

Pittman is a strong contender to acquire the franchise tag, which would cost the Colts an estimated $20.71 million, so it’s possible that he won’t go unclaimed. According to several sources, Pittman’s re-signing is Colts general manager Chris Ballard’s top priority.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen has already stated that if Jones isn’t ready to play, the quarterback issue has to be addressed. Tyrod Taylor, a seasoned backup who is scheduled to become a free agent and could choose to join a different club, increases the need.
The Giants believe that Jones will be ready to play from the opening day of the season, but Schoen has stated that they would like to acquire a backup who can step in and take the field if the incumbent isn’t.
According to Spielbeger, Gardner Minshew of the Colts, who was selected for the AFC Pro Bowl, provides this kind of expertise. In three of his five seasons in the National Football League, Minshew started as the starting quarterback. In each of those two seasons, he passed for more than 3,000 yards. For two seasons, he was also the Philadelphia Eagles’ trusty backup quarterback.
A quarterback who spends as much time as a starter and a backup is not often found. Given that his estimated market worth is $8.75 million annually based on a two-year, $17.5 million contract, Minshew would also be an inexpensive choice.
“Minshew could make as New York’s insurance option for the early portion of the 2024 season as Daniel Jones recovers from a torn ACL, with Tyrod Taylor set to hit free agency after sitting on the bench while Tommy Devito started despite clearly being the best quarterback available,” Spielbeger stated.
Once more, Minshew gets to start a couple games and might step in if Jones, regrettably, has another injury. After a strong year in Indianapolis, Minshew might not have starting roles available, but there is a good opportunity nonetheless.”
If the Giants choose to exercise the escape clause in Daniel Jones’s contract after this season, they will probably want to sign a seasoned backup to a two-year contract. The Giants may also be considering the draft as a quarterback prospect.
