The Los Angeles Chargers are destroyed by the Las Vegas Raiders, who set a franchise-high in points scored.
Following their lackluster 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders dominated the Los Angeles Chargers 63-12 on Thursday, scoring 47 points in the first half of the game.
On their opening possession of the game, the Raiders, led by rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell, scored when running back Zamir White forcefully entered the end zone for a one-yard rushing touchdown.
With no touchdowns since the second quarter of their Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas’ scoring drought was broken.
At Allegiant Stadium, the floodgates erupted as Las Vegas scored touchdowns of almost every kind against a defenseless Chargers team, ending their drought.
The Raiders scored with deep throws, a pick-six, big runs off of direct snaps, fumble returns, and a trick play that included a toss from wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, among other things.
Throughout the game, neither team kicked a field goal; instead, the Raiders scored all 63 of their points through touchdowns.
The Raiders set a franchise record for points scored and the Chargers allowed a franchise-worst amount of points.
Just nine points separated Las Vegas’ enormous point total from the NFL record of 72. Additionally, this is just the second game this century in which one team has scored so many points in a single contest. Earlier in the season, the Miami Dolphins destroyed the Denver Broncos with 70 points.
