Keaton Mitchell of the Ravens after a “heartbreaking” injury
In Baltimore's "Sunday Night Football" victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, running back Keaton Mitchell of the Ravens was lost for the season.
Undrafted rookie Keaton Mitchell has played a crucial role in the Baltimore Ravens‘ top-ranked rushing attack this season, averaging 163.8 yards per game on the ground. Unfortunately, the team faces a setback as Mitchell suffered a torn ACL in the recent win over the Jaguars.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh expressed his sorrow over the “heartbreaking” injury, but noted Mitchell’s positive outlook and resilient spirit. Despite going undrafted, Mitchell, whose father Anthony previously played for the Ravens and won a Super Bowl with the team, has been a standout performer in the last six weeks, accumulating 480 yards and two touchdowns.
With Mitchell sidelined, the Ravens will turn to Justice Hill and Gus Edwards to fill the void. Hill and Edwards have collectively gained 976 yards and scored 14 touchdowns this season. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, a significant contributor to the league-leading rushing attack, will continue to play a pivotal role as the Ravens face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16, their upcoming challenging matchup. The 49ers boast the third-best defense against ground yards, allowing only 89.4 per game. Despite the setback, the Ravens still control their destiny for the AFC’s No. 1 seed, but success hinges on overcoming challenges in the remaining regular-season games against the 49ers, Dolphins, and Steelers.
