A former NFL quarterback’s son has pledged to UCLA.

The son of former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, Henry Hasselbeck, declared his commitment to UCLA on Wednesday.

Over the summer, Hasselbeck, a three-star quarterback from Westwood, Massachusetts’ Xaverian Brothers, committed to Michigan State. Before choosing UCLA, he later reopened his recruitment and gave Boston College, where his father was a standout quarterback, some thought.

The younger Hasselbeck claimed that his decision to attend UCLA was mostly influenced by his relationship with Chip Kelly and his ability to manage Kelly’s offense.

“I felt a strong connection to the coaching staff and the school.” The players talk so highly of Coach (Chip) Kelly, and he is an excellent man,” Hasselbeck said to Boston Herald reporter Danny Ventura. “The offense they run is incredible, and the connections I made with the coach and his staff were amazing.”

Hasselbeck was a high school lacrosse player as well. Last year, he committed to play lacrosse at Maryland before switching back to football.

Matt Hasselbeck spent 17 years in the NFL, playing for four different teams. The majority of his accomplishments came while playing for the Seattle Seahawks, as he led the team to Super Bowl XL and was selected for three Pro Bowls.

Following his retirement, Matt was inducted into the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor and selected for the team’s 35th anniversary.
