According to Jets owner Woody Johnson, HC Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas will return for the 2024 season.
Prior to Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets, declared that he will keep general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh through 2024.
“My decision is to keep them,” Johnson told the New York post. “I think we’ve had some very positive moves. The culture of the team is a lot better. The defense is better. The offense needs a few pieces.”
The choice validates the story from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Saturday, which stated that Gang Green had not indicated that it would significantly alter its senior leadership.
Johnson believes it is best to give the three of them a full year together before making a decision regarding the future, noting stability as a key component of a 2024 turnaround, given that Aaron Rodgers sustained an injury on the opening drive of the season.
“Just to keep the continuity going with Aaron and the team we’ve got,” Johnson said. “Like I said a year ago, we need a quarterback. We had a quarterback for four plays. Since then we haven’t been able to replace him. If we have a good quarterback, it makes everybody’s job easier. It makes the line better, the receivers better.”
Not surprisingly, considering Rodgers’ recent statements for Saleh and Douglas, Johnson would concur. The organization has made decisions with the MVP quarterback in mind ever since acquiring Rodgers. In 2024, sticking with the GM and coach he likes and is comfortable with will maintain that pattern.
