Breaking: Commanders vs. 49ers: Jacoby Brissett May Be Under Question
It might be the end of Jacoby Brissett’s career as the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders before it began.
Due to a hamstring injury, Brissett was added to the Commanders’ injury report on Friday. He is questionable for Sunday’s FedEx Field game against the San Francisco 49ers at 1 p.m.
ET. After being selected as the starting quarterback against San Francisco (11-4) on Tuesday, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera announced that Brissett will be making his first start of the season.
In back-to-back games, Brissett substituted quarterback Sam Howell and came dangerously close to leading two comebacks. In the fourth quarter of a 28-20 loss against the Los Angeles Rams (8-7), on December 17, Brissett completed 8 of 10 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
On Sunday, he had another strong performance against the New York Jets, finishing 10 of 13 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. The Commanders were on the verge of a 20-point comeback, but were ultimately defeated 30-28 on a game-winning field goal.
Sam Howell, who has had a difficult time throughout the Commanders’ six-game losing streak, is relieved by the seasoned quarterback. Howell has thrown two touchdowns and eight interceptions in his last five games.
Howell might be put back in the fire against one of the top defenses in sport on Sunday, especially with Brissett doubtful. The 49ers have one of the strongest defenses in the league.
Reversing course After missing back-to-back games due to a hamstring injury, Brian Robinson Jr. will return for Washington.
These are the remaining Commanders vs. 49ers game statuses.
