Charlie Weis expresses disapproval of James Franklin’s Peach Bowl remarks about Penn State’s performance.

Shortly after Ole Miss secured a 38-25 victory over Penn State in the Peach Bowl, Charlie Weis extended congratulations to the Rebels, a team coached by his son. Simultaneously, he criticized Penn State’s football coach, James Franklin, for what he perceived as a failure to adequately acknowledge Ole Miss’ performance. Weis expressed surprise that Franklin, in his post-game statements, seemed to attribute Penn State’s loss to various external factors without sufficiently acknowledging Ole Miss’ dominance. Weis conveyed his congratulations to the Ole Miss Rebels for their commanding win and expressed his astonishment that Coach Franklin opted to place blame on factors such as “too many moving parts” instead of giving proper credit to Ole Miss.

Following the defeat to Ole Miss, Franklin indeed mentioned “too many moving parts” in his post-game press conference, offering it as an explanation for Penn State’s defensive struggles, especially due to the absence of defensive coordinator Manny Diaz and several key starters. Franklin highlighted challenges such as missing players, limited playing time for certain starters, and injuries to key contributors. These factors led to Penn State allowing season-highs in points, total yards, and passing yards against Ole Miss. Additionally, Franklin voiced criticism of the officiating, specifically addressing a perceived instance of uncalled pass interference during Penn State’s first offensive series, which resulted in settling for a field goal—a moment he deemed “significant.” Weis responded to this by posting another comment on X (formerly Twitter).
