David Tepper, the Panthers’ billionaire owner, inspired jokes from NFL fans with his $300,000 fine.
The NFL penalized Carolina Panthers chairman David Tepper $300,000 after he was captured on camera throwing a drink at Jacksonville Jaguars fans after the Panthers’ 26-0 loss on New Year’s Eve.
The league issued his six-figure fine on Tuesday as a result of his “unacceptable conduct,” and while it appears to be a large number on the surface, NFL fans believe the punishment should have been significantly harsher, given Tepper’s immense fortune.
According to Forbes, Carolina’s chairman has a net worth of $20.6 billion, so the $300,000 fine is simply a slap on the wrist for the wealthy billionaire. That part of the fine was not lost on NFL fans and reporters, who made several jokes about Tepper not losing sleep over the financial penalty.
