Ron Rivera blames the Commanders’ poor season on himself.

The Washington Commanders have one game left on their schedule before the season is over. The Commanders are aware that they can play spoiler to their division rivals when the Dallas Cowboys come into focus.

With Dallas needing a win to clinch the No. 2 spot and the NFC East title, Washington can derail the Cowboys’ ambitions.

Perhaps more agonizing for the Commanders this season has been their own shortcomings. With the team sitting at 4-12 and on a seven-game losing streak, there isn’t much to be excited about as the season comes to a close.

For head coach Ron Rivera, Washington’s disappointing season conclusion after such a promising start (2-0) is his fault.

“There’s a number of things,” Rivera explained. “However, it’s unfortunate. After all, it’s my obligation at the end of the day. So what disappoints me the most is that there were some things that we simply did not complete. That is the difficult part.”

Washington has one game to salvage anything from the wreckage that is the 2023 season, and perhaps the carrot of destroying Dallas’ postseason seeding will be enough to motivate the players to play in this meaningless game.

Even offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy acknowledges the significance of playing the Cowboys.

“Obviously, it’s the Dallas Cowboys,” Bieniemy pointed out. “It means something around here, and it means something to these individuals. So, I believe there is still plenty to improve and continue to work on.”
